Introduction

Greetings from your English teacher, Mrs. Cannady. Feel free to contact me at Whitewater Middle School between the hours of 8:45-10:15 a.m. at 770-460-3450.
I began this blog while attending the University of West Georgia. It was a project I began for course I took while earning my Specialist Degree.

This week my students are writing about their favorite room in their house. I have posted some links to web pages (see left side of blog) that define supporting sentences. If you click on the links, you will be able to see good examples of supporting sentences. You will also be able to practice writing supporting sentences.

Amy, I'm an English/ literature major from years ago and it's still my favorite thing. I love the idea of writing about special events in middle school kids' lives (I've worked as a media specialist in a middle school for seven years); kids connect with assignments that have personal meaning for them, probably more so in middle school than in any other age. Thanks, RobertW

I perused the Read,Write,Learn site and it is loaded with some really great lesson plans. As you know, I encourage writing across the curriculum in my computer lab and so I looked for some useful lesson plans for my classroom. I especially liked the one where students collaborate in groups, research a favorite author, and role-play their chosen author on a panel. This reinforces authentic learning and engages students in their communication skills.
